Here it is: my ground breaking idea and opinion….. “You get what you pay for.”

Seriously, it’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned since starting Opal & Daisy in 2023. It’s super scary to spend the money you haven’t made yet on supplies and tools… but in the long run, you will be spending EVEN MORE money to fix issues, replacing faulty equipment or paying with your time to make up for it.

Some may think I’m crazy for investing so much so soon… (most days, I agree 🤪) but I believe at just 2 years in, I’m so much further ahead of the game. What have I invested in?

✨Learning/mentorship from the absolute 🐐of floral resin preservation.

✨Learning business practices and workflow from a super boss babe in the breastmilk jewelry niche.

✨Investing in the TOP LINE of silica, silicone molds, UV lamps and most importantly- RESIN. Amazon & Temu may be cheaper and have faster delivery, but it won’t take long to learn what is worth it. I prefer to buy from small businesses & especially 🇺🇸 made!

✨A workspace that is temperature & humidity controlled. It is secure from all the little hands that may be around, and my house is safe from toxic fumes with the best exhaust and filtration system & PPE possible.

If you’re willing to take a chance on yourself, do yourself a favor and set yourself up for the best chance of success by investing in high quality materials & education from the pros. You won’t regret it 💛

Special thanks to the wonderful people who believed in me from the beginning… while I was still learning the valuable lessons.

Now, the only thing I’m missing is the hours in the day to increase my turn around times. But for now, part time will just have to do. Keepsakin’ ain’t easy. 🤭

A little story about Evie… Becoming a mom was always a dream. When I finally had my Izzie in 2020, I had everything I thought I ever needed. Then God chuckled and sent us Evie in 2021. Within minutes of delivering this precious 11lb 2oz baby, she was taken away to NICU for immediate testing and oxygen support. Since she was hooked up to so much, we had to wait T H I R T Y hours to hold her again. The only thing I could do to help her was pump my breastmilk for her feeding tube. It was the greatest feeling in the world to be able to give her medicine that was made just for her, whatever I could do to help her heal. I will forever remember the time I shared with her, in the rocking chair in her NICU room, talking to her, dreaming with her and singing to her- and praying her little lungs would get stronger and stronger every day. No matter how long I’ve been working in health care, no one could’ve prepared me to watch my baby hooked up to machines, or the constant “hurry up and wait” for results and good news.

Opal & Daisy was created in honor of my babies, and in honor of the moments of happiness, hopelessness, fear, uncertainty and gratitude… all of the moments that has encompassed my journey through motherhood. Sure, it’s just some pretty jewelry to some. Or weird, to others. But for me- it’s jewelry that symbolizes the greatest journey of my life.

A little story about Evie… Becoming a mom was always a dream. When I finally had my Izzie in 2020, I had everything I thought I ever needed. Then God chuckled and sent us Evie in 2021. Within minutes of delivering this precious 11lb 2oz baby, she was taken away to NICU for immediate testing and oxygen support. Since she was hooked up to so much, we had to wait T H I R T Y hours to hold her again. The only thing I could do to help her was pump my breastmilk for her feeding tube. It was the greatest feeling in the world to be able to give her medicine that was made just for her, whatever I could do to help her heal. I will forever remember the time I shared with her, in the rocking chair in her NICU room, talking to her, dreaming with her and singing to her- and praying her little lungs would get stronger and stronger every day. No matter how long I’ve been working in health care, no one could’ve prepared me to watch my baby hooked up to machines, or the constant “hurry up and wait” for results and good news.

A beautiful, custom necklace recently finished.

This combines stones made from 2 separate journeys & children. The pear stone was provided from a previous piece of breastmilk jewelry and was re-set with a new oval with subtle gold shimmer.

This is a great example of how to combine and honor each journey separately with the comfort and ease of just one necklace.

It was an honor to work with you!

I’ve been anxiously awaiting these golden beauties to pop- and today was the day!

My love for flowers is growing every day and I literally dream about rows of flower beds … and how fun it would be to have my own roadside stand for fresh cut flowers

What am I doing here? Getting these daffodils in silica as soon as I could. Fresher the better!

Items needed:
Small plastic air tight container
bag of @wisedry_
Small cup to scoop the sand ( silica is very toxic, so you should avoid touching it and breathing its dust. )

💛stick the flowers upright in a small layer of sand, then scoop by scoop, fill and cover all the petals. Seal the container and check back in a couple weeks!

Giving all the heart eyes to this beautiful Milky Mama necklace 😍.

This was created using two inclusions of hair from twins, opal flakes, gold flakes and shimmer… and designed to resemble a tree. Baby hair is so thin and dainty- it requires A L O T of patience and creativity to manipulate it while still allowing it to look natural. I couldn’t be more proud of how this one turned out.
